HARWOOD FLATS

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

Harwood Flats, is creating a sense of home and community in North Bethesda, MD. The collection of over 125 artworks was thoughtfully curated and created by the Grand Image team to speak to the location of this vibrant DC-adjacent community.

The full breadth of Grand Image services was used, from art consulting and sourcing from our extensive catalog, to custom creations from our in-house studio artists and digital team.

CUSTOM COMMISSION

Harwood Flat’s entryway with its high ceilings, brick accent wall, and dynamic light fixtures called for a showstopper. Artist-in-residence, Kyle Goderwis, was commissioned for the largescale work. It was created in-house and printed largescale to accentuate the grand entryway.

EMBELLISHMENT

The commission was then embellished with gold leaf to add dimension—and tie into the gold-accented fixtures throughout the grand entryway.

PUT YOUR RECORDS ON

The studio worked to create custom painted records in complementary colors to match the brief from the design team. These original works live in one of the building’s clubroom areas. The space used nostalgic nods with a modern twist—including quotes from artists, authors, and musicians. Playing into this musical design concept, painted records were included.

THOUGHTFULLY CURATED FROM THE GRAND IMAGE LINE

Along with custom works, the art consulting team curated a wide range of abstract works from the Grand Image line to live in the hallways and shared spaces within the living community.

DIGITAL STUDIO AT WORK

The in-house Digital Team customized the cycling imagery for the hallway near the gym facility. They recolored this pre-existing wallcovering design to match the colorways throughout the project. They then transformed the design into a dynamic tryptic printed on canvas and framed for a continuous visual storyline in the hallway.

A second piece was customized by the digital team which included a collage work by our in-house painting studio that was later digitally rendered with an illustrative map of Bethesda, MD and color-matched to meet the thematic colors of the project.
