Campbell Laird selected as to participate in the International New Media Expo
GI artist Campbell Laird has been selected in a juried competition by Los Angeles County Museum of Art's contemporary art curator, Howard Fox, as part of the International New Media Expo in downtown Los Angeles. Sponsored by Rex Bruce of LACDA and SIGGRAPH among others, the opening reception is August 14th, from 7 -9 pm. The exhibition runs through September 6th.
In Mr. Fox's words,"the exhibition is characterized by invention, transfiguration, and wonderment. It is hardly surprising, given the roots of modern art in notions of a revolutionary avant-garde, that progressive artists in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries devoured new materials, new technologies, and new art forms with a prodigious and omnivorous appetite. Digital technologies are no exception."

GI Artist David Marty Creates a Painting for KIA Unheard of Presidents' Day Sale

Among the Aspen by David Marty
David & Goliath Advertising Agency recently commissioned GI artist David Marty to paint an old world painting for a commercial they were producing for KIA after seeing his work on the internet. The commercial is a spoof on a collector who collects memorabilia of unheard of presidents, and Kia is having a sale in honor of Millard Fillmore. While the painting is only seen for about two seconds the agency was extremely particular. They wanted to combine aspects of two mock-ups and the lettering had to be painted by hand a little irregular and ragged, but it had to look like a particular type font. The catch was that the agency didn't give the final go ahead until Friday evening and the painting had to be completed and professionally photographed by Monday morning. It was a challenge to say the least, but a fun project. The KIA commercial will be airing until President's Day. But watch closely or you'll miss the painting!
The artist also had his work selected for an exhibition in Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, Washington located in their new building. A total of 27 paintings are now on display in their beautiful upper lobby through June 2008. Finally, David will have an exhibit room at the C.M. Russell Art Show and Auction again this year in Great Falls, Montana. His painting, Lingering Light, a scene near Jackson, Wyoming will be included in the auction.

A Great Month for Kinga Czerska who is in Art in America & Art Info

Quarks by Kinga Czerska
"This year's new entrant to the hotel art-fair circuit is Red Dot, organized by dealers George Billis and Ned Davies and artist Art Greco. Occupying the bottom three floors of the Park South Hotel on E. 28th Street, nearly 50 galleriesmostly American, with a few international participantscrammed work in all mediums into every nook and cranny of their allotted area. Some filled spacious corner rooms, while others had to make do with cramped, narrow quarters. Most successful were installations shelf and a mirror to project Packing BerlinAsya Reznikov's video of her hands neatly rolling clothes and stacking booksinto a plaid-lined suitcase on the floor. Chicago's Kasia Kay Art Projects presented crisp, abstract paintings in striated pastels by Kinga Czerska and thickly painted canvases in reds and greens with garish accents of neon pink and orange by Kim Dorland. Newzones (Calgary) hung gloomy photographs by Sarah Nind on the bathroom mirror, and Sophie Jodoin's oil-on-paper paintings of paired figures fighting in dark hallways and empty rooms on the wall next to the T.V. Approximately 6,000 people visited Red Dot, and the organizers are already planning a Miami fair, to be held in the South Seas Hotel, to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach in early December. By the last day, red 'sold' dots were visible in most rooms; overall sales reached just under $1 million."

"For this week's picks, we asked our editors in New York, Chicago and Rome to select their favorite works for sale in those cities. As could be expected from three important, yet vastly different, art cities, our list includes available pieces by a wide range of artists working in diverse mediapainting, photography, installationand hailing from many different parts of the world. Our Chicago correspondent recommends a few works from a show of self-taught artists at Judy A. Saslow Gallery. Works by Jaber and Gérard Sendrey, both from France, are included, as is an undated piece by Giordano Gelli, an Italian artist who is something of a legend in outsider art circles. Also in the Windy City, we found excellent mixed-media workour favorites incorporate player piano scrolls by Chicago's own Brian Yates and visually light but formally dense abstract painting by Krakow, Poland-born Kinga Czerska at Kasia Kay Art Projects."
